Wellness Pros

Not everyone can go into independent practice. Perhaps you want to work with a partner or for another practice. Maybe you simply love working in a spa, gym, or salon. Your dream job might be in a hotel or on a cruise ship. Some wellness pros find that they need more experience before they’re comfortable going out on their own. Sometimes, you need to relocate to a new area where you don’t yet have contacts. It doesn’t matter why you are looking for a job. What matters is that we can help you find one.

I am working in the beauty industry at the moment, how ever it is very hard to find a job in GA Every web site I visit, has the same job openings which I have noticed are posted every 3 months again. I have decided to start a mobile spa, any suggestions advice? I don’t want to go back to school for another license I would really love to work in a spa before going out on my own.

I am a Nationaly licenced massage therapist with a small part time office, No matter how hard I try I can’t continuesly fill my days. My gole has always been to fix people and I do quite a good job at that so I tend to treat people for about 3 sessions and they don’t come back for a while. I am always looking for new clients and more work.

    • rmorgan says:

      Hi, Coral-

It’s unfortunately all too common for people to only come in for treatment when they are in acute pain. It’s fantastic that you can help them, but wouldn’t it be wonderful if they could be without acute pain in the first place? Of course it would, but that’s where lifestyles come into play and it can be difficult to educate clients that small changes, like regular massage treatments, can improve their day-to-day lives.

If you don’t already, try handing out recommendation cards at the end of your sessions. They should be personalized for each client, but in a form that makes them easy to fill out. Maybe you want to recommend drinking more water, maybe you want to recommend a stretch that would be helpful. Is there a product from which they would benefit? Recommend it, and consider selling it yourself to both make it easy for the client to purchase and to increase your income. If you don’t sell it, let them know where they can pick it up or order it. Most importantly, you want to recommend when they should come back to see you.

We’ve heard other practitioners say they have had success getting clients to come back more often through gentle encouragement to book their next appointment before leaving.

It might also be worth spending some time coming up with truthful statements about how regular massages can actually be affordable because they can prevent those acute flare-ups that can result in having to take time off of work. At the end of a session, ask the client to take a moment to think about how they feel compared to when they came in. Let them know they can feel that way consistently by coming in regularly on a schedule that fits their budget.

Start a conversation in the Wellx community to see what else has worked for practitioners. You can also find other tips on our blog.

      Wishing you much success!

I’m a esthetician with NY Cosmetology License since 1989 and I moved to Florida . What can I do to work without going to school for another License ? I ask a few Beauty schools to have just 250 hours ,requirement for esthetician ,but they want me to take the hole curs .I don’t want to do that .
Any idea what is there for me?

    Thank you

    Nicoleta

    • rmorgan says:

      Hi, Nicoleta-

We suggest you start by looking at the Florida Board of Cosmetology site.
There is also a page of FAQs that addresses licensure by endorsement.

Here’s a list of skin care schools in Florida . It doesn’t contain website information, but you should be able to look up some in your area to see if there is a skin care only program you can enroll in should you not be able to apply for licensure by endorsement.

Hope that is a helpful starting point for you. If you have additional questions, please feel free to e-mail me at rmorgan@wellx.com.

      Best of luck!
      Rebecca
