Korean acupuncture usually focuses only on pressure points within the hands to help diagnose and treat conditions anywhere in the body. This form of acupuncture emphasizes five elements theory and takes into account a person’s body type and constitution. Also known as Korean Hand Therapy, this form of acupuncture counts 14 meridians and over 300 pressure points in the hand.
Taeguek and Saam are the two main branches of Korean acupuncture. Taeguek focuses on the heart meridians. Saam is also known as the Four Needle Technique.
Since the entire body can be treated using the pressure points in the hand, Korean acupuncture is a great style for somebody who does not want needles inserted in other areas of their body.
Like all styles of acupuncture, the Korean style doesn’t focus on treating a single issue or injury. Instead, it treats the body as a whole system and tries to create balance in the body in order to bring about good health.
